The Role of the Head of Social Content
Brentford FC has an exciting opportunity for someone with an in-depth knowledge of social, community and football, and a passion for digital content, to join our content team.
In this varied role, you will ensure Brentford FC maintains and grows its close connections to its online communities. You will lead the creation of content that is optimised to achieve engagement and follower growth across multiple social channels whilst supporting the objectives of the marketing and commercial teams.
You’ll think dynamically, and creatively; taking calculated risks to achieve innovative delivery of content. You’ll lead on Brentford FC’s look, feel and tone across their social platforms, and deliver impactful, top of mind content in posts covering day to day, contract extensions and new signing announcements.
Via your relationships with social platforms you’ll be familiar with best practice in content delivery and by collaborating with governing bodies and like-minded publishers you’ll take BFC content to new audiences.
The successful candidate will work within the Content Team, managing two reports within the Social Content team, and report into the Head of Digital & Content.
Main Accountabilities
- Create, commission, and distribute digital content to several million cross-platform followers, for one of the Premier League’s fastest growing clubs.
- Working closely with the Head of Digital & Content and the Social Media team, including two direct reports and a Head of Community Social, to help shape our social strategy, ensuring it aligns with club goals and objectives.
- Support and deliver engaging partnership activations and Club marketing campaigns, from ideation through to delivery, to ensure they are suitable for our social media channels and audiences.
- Work with the wider Social and Video teams to ensure video is edited in a way that is optimised for reach, engagement and monetization.
- Drive the department’s use of vertical video as a tool to reach currently untapped audiences.
- Evidence dynamic, creative thinking; take calculated risks, whilst keeping our output on-brand and in line with our values, to achieve innovative delivery of content.
- Work with the Video Lead on the creative direction of player signings and contract extensions. Identify, utilise and evolve current trends to create content with cut through. Work closely with the Content Planning Manager to ensure seamless organisation.
- Work with the Head of Community Social to ensure that Brentford-centric storytelling is accurate and timely. Anniversaries and milestones should be celebrated, and provide an opportunity to showcase the club’s values to the wider footballing community.
- Lead on relationships with social media platforms. Ensure the club are aware of changes to algorithms, launches of new tools and best practice, so that content is optimised for maximum reach.
- Support a close relationship with the Football Department in order to achieve the necessary access for greater, unprecedented storytelling.
- Leverage and harness the club’s relationship with the Premier League. Collaborate on social content and identify opportunities to build relationships with their global audience.
- Drive collaborations with like-minded, genre-spanning third party publishers. Identify playing talent that can tap into the worlds of fashion and music to engage new audiences that approach football as a lifestyle, not just a sport.
- Support the club strategy to move our social followers through the funnel and onto owned channels.
- Work effectively with the content production team to help deliver a high-quality, highly-performing content schedule and enable them to work efficiently and to their full potential.
- Produce high performing organic content for the Club’s global fanbase and to attract the interest of new audiences, particularly on growth platforms.
- Work with Club journalists to maximise the reach of appropriate news and editorial content, with specific focus on driving traffic to Club owned platforms website, app, etc. through expert distribution and social platform functionality.
- Collaborate with the in-house content production teams to create industry leading digital content in line with the Club’s brand framework and tone of voice; define platform-specific look & feel.
- Ensure the Social team has the necessary third-party platforms and technology to drive objectives.
- Work closely with the insights team to analyse content performance, report back on findings and adapt content accordingly.
- React to events and breaking news, on and off the pitch, in real-time.
- Stay abreast of the latest social trends, platform tools and emerging platforms to help inform BFC’s social strategies

Person Specification - Essential Characteristics- Significant relevant experience & excellent knowledge of all major social media platforms and the ability to adapt quickly to changes in how they operate.
- Evidence of managing a team and cultivating a dynamic, forward-thinking team culture.
- A proven track record for creating high performing digital content for large audiences and managing feeds across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok.
- A dynamic, creative thinker who is able to take calculated risks, whilst keeping our output on-brand and in line with our values: togetherness, respectful and progressive
- Well organised with a forward-planning attitude.
- A data-driven approach, with the ability to use social media analytics tools and reports to evaluate performance, inform your approach, ensure best practice, and adjust content execution accordingly.
- You will also have a good knowledge of the terms and conditions of social media platforms, especially as they relate to branded content.
- An ability to optimise posting strategy, i.e., audience segmentation and geo-posting.
- To be successful in this role, you will have a strong passion, knowledge and interest in football
- A team-first collaborator, who’s first interest is the success of the Content Team and the Club.
- Comfortable operating in a highly-pressurised and fast-moving environment
- Flexible and willing to work around the football calendar, including weekends and evenings where necessary.
Person Specification – Desirable Characteristics
- Previous experience delivering content and a social strategy for a sporting team/organisation or other fast-moving fan-facing environment
- An understand of key broader marketing principles or experience in a marketing-led role would be an advantage
