The Role of the Head of Digital
Brentford FC has an exciting opportunity for someone with an in-depth knowledge of technology and digital platforms, and a passion for football, to join our marketing team.
In this varied role, you will ensure Brentford FC maintains and grows its digital audience and improves the experience for those fans engaging with the club online.
You’ll think dynamically, and creatively; taking calculated risks to achieve innovative delivery of club strategy and objectives. You’ll lead on Brentford FC’s look, feel and tone across their digital platforms, and deliver impactful, best in class digital experiences.
You’ll support and develop the existing high-performing Digital team; prioritise effort, manage digital partners, identify opportunities for growth and optimise existing ways of working.
The successful candidate will work within the Marketing Team, managing two reports within the Digital team, and report into the Head of Digital & Content.
Main Accountabilities
- Line manage a team of two who have ownership of web and app. Support them with the development and delivery of loyalty and other technology-driven business priorities.
- From a digital marketing perspective, lead on the management of relationships with our digital partners across web, app, streaming, data warehousing and point of sale.
- Support the design, testing and implementation of exclusive content on web and app. Working closely with the Content team you’ll identify what content drives the greatest value as part of a paid or freemium offering.
- Assist the existing streaming output. Identify more opportunities for streaming, what further development could improve the streaming experience and how streaming can provide supplementary value to membership.
- Alongside the Insights and Strategy team, manage how the club gets value from each of its sources of data. Work with existing and new data partners to harness the potential of this data.
- Utilise expertise within the club and externally to support the work being done collaboratively between the Digital, Fan Engagement and EDI teams to maintain and improve digital accessibility.
- Work with the editorial team to ensure best practices on web and app that drive improved dwell time, returning visits and ultimately log-ins.
- Support the existing drive to increase use of gamification across digital channels to improve engagement on those platforms. This should play a key part in loyalty but also aid the user experience and journeys across editorial and commercial.
- Lead the strategy as to how Marketing could derive value from improved connectivity within the Gtech Community Stadium.
- Support on the implementation of digital ticketing. Work with relevant third parties to ensure delivery and then evolution of ticketing solution.
- Work with web and app leads to ensure development is in line with club priorities and strategy to include fan engagement, membership sales, growth of international audiences and data acquisition.
- Identify opportunities for onboarding new technologies that will add value to existing tech-stack. Aid other departments with technologies that support their own objectives.
- Be mindful as to how AI can unlock efficiencies in the way the digital department, and the rest of the business work. Be the department’s lead in this area.
- Support the department’s existing paid media output. Share own experience and views on best practice to optimise delivery and provide maximum results that can benefit the wider business’ campaigns.
- Be responsible for the department’s compliancy with industry regulations including GDPR. Ensure use of cookies is compliant and work with third parties to ensure users have flexibility and choice.

Person Specification - Essential Characteristics
- Significant relevant experience & excellent knowledge of digital marketing and digital platforms and the ability to adapt quickly to changes in the evolution of digital technologies.
- Evidence of managing a team and cultivating a dynamic, forward-thinking team culture.
- A proven track record for driving digital transformation; developing new platforms to improve user experience and drive greater acquisition and better conversion.
- A dynamic, creative thinker who is able to take calculated risks, whilst keeping our output on-brand and in line with our values: togetherness, respectful and progressive
- Well organised with a forward-planning attitude.
- A data-driven approach, with the ability to use analytics tools and reports to evaluate performance, inform your approach, ensure best practice, and adjust development and/or strategy accordingly.
- To be successful in this role, you will have a strong passion, knowledge and interest in football
- A team-first collaborator, who’s first interest is the success of the Marketing team and Club.
- Comfortable operating in a highly-pressurised and fast-moving environment
Person Specification – Desirable Characteristics
- Previous experience delivering digital projects for a sporting team/organisation or other fast-moving fan-facing environment
- An understand of key broad technology principles or experience in a technology-led role would be an advantage
- Native user of mobile and loyalty applications
